Federal minister touts green initiatives in 2022 budget

The owner of Green Sun Rising Inc. is happy to see investments in green energy after years of promoting electric and solar energy infrastructure in the city.

Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino visited Windsor Monday to tout the Liberal government's green initiatives in the 2022 budget.

Green Sun Rising President Klaus Dohring said initiatives to support electric vehicle usage and the reduction of diesel dependency throughout the country signal a shift toward a larger acceptance of green technologies.

"There are specific programs and specific funds for diesel reduction. That's obviously a good thing," said Dohring. "Locally, the Green Homes Program is starting to make a difference."

This program offers rebates to homeowners who install green technologies like solar panels in their homes.

The budget released last week also includes an extension of the electric vehicle rebate program. This program gives a $5000 rebate for the purchase of an eligible electric vehicle.

"This is a budget that helps make EVs and other green technology affordable and accessible to all. Those are the trees we're planting and we're looking forward to seeing them grow right here in Windsor," said Mendicino.

The budget also included plans to improve the network of charging stations throughout the country.
