Thanasi's closing after 41 years

After four decades in the community Thanasi's Greek Restaurant will be closing next month.

Owner Nick Pontikis has decided after 41 years it is time for him, and many of his staff members , to retire.

"The reason we are closing is because my main staff is aging, it's just overwhelming," said Pontikis. "We have been a victim of our own success."

Pontikis said he made the decision because they have never been busier and can no longer keep up and provide the consistent quality the community has come to expect.

He made the announcement on the restaurant's Facebook page this week.

"I am so thrilled, honoured, and moved by the outpouring of love that Windsor has shown us," said Pontikis.

Pontikis became emotional speaking about the gratitude he has for all the families who have made the restaurant a part of their special occasions.

"We've made so many good friends, so many good memories," said Pontikis. "We've had people who had their rehearsal dinner here then brought their kids here for their baptism and now they're bringing their kids here for their baptism. It's outrageously exciting."

The restaurant has been sold and will become an Indian restaurant at the end of May.
