Catch up immunization clinics move into the community

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit plans to take its catch-up immunization clinic on the road.

Since March 8, it has offered parents with kids aged seven to 12 the opportunity to get caught up on their school immunizations at the clinic at Devonshire Mall. That includes the vaccine series for Hepatitis B, HPV, and Meningococcal disease, all required under the Immunization of School Pupils Act.

Now that the clinic is closing, it's planning clinics over the next several months in individual communities across the region.

Starting in April, there will be clinics at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre in Leamington and at Lakeshore's Atlas Tube Recreation Centre.

Parents can book appointments for their kids through the health unit's website. It will be updated to include the dates, times, and locations of each clinic.

Primary caregivers also have those immunizations free of charge.

If you're unsure if your child is caught up, you can email the health unit's health schools department or call 519-258-2146 ext. 1222.

The health unit hopes vaccinating as many students as possible before the 2022-23 school year will reduce the number of suspensions issued in Windsor-Essex.
