Ontarians will have a chance to celebrate the family on Monday, with more opportunities this year compared to last year's COVID-marred observances.
Family Day is a statutory holiday in Ontario. All provincial and municipal offices are closed Monday, including ServiceOntario offices, though certain transactions can still be performed online.
All four of the public school boards serving Windsor-Essex are off on Family Day. St. Clair College and the University of Windsor will also be closed. All classes resume on Tuesday.
Some big-box stores and chain restaurants are closed or on restricted hours Family Day. Be sure to call ahead to avoid a wasted trip. All Beer Store and LCBO locations are closed Monday, though grocery stores that sell beer or wine may continue to do so per provincial guidelines.
At the Windsor Public Library, the Central, Budimir, and Riverside branches are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other branches are closed Monday. Also, all Essex County Library branches are closed on Family Day.
Devonshire Mall is open Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. while Tecumseh Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The 311 call centre is closed, but the 211 service line will be open 24 hours as usual Monday.
Residential garbage and recyclable collection in the city of Windsor will be delayed one day. Commercial garbage collection usually scheduled for Monday will take place as normal. Refer to your waste collection calendar for details.
The public drop-off depot on Central Ave and E.C. Row is closed on Family Day. Regular hours resume Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There is no parking enforcement in Windsor on Monday. Metered street spaces are free but parking garages are open and paid as usual. The city’s parking payment offices are closed, but payments will still be taken online.
Most community centres, customer care centres, swimming pools, and arenas in the City of Windsor are closed Monday. The Lanspeary Lions Outdoor Rink is open for rentals from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Public skating is available by appointment from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is done online and is first-come, first-served.
The Windsor Spitfires will play a Family Day matinee at 2:05 p.m. against the Saginaw Spirit. While the WFCU Centre's pool and community rinks are closed, fans will have access to the main arena via the regular entrances.
The H4 day program at Windsor Water World will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for single men and women experiencing homelessness.
Transit Windsor buses will run on Sunday-holiday schedules. The tunnel bus to Detroit is suspended indefinitely. Transit Windsor’s customer service office downtown will be open Family Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., though the sales office on North Service Rd East is closed.
The Francois Baby House and the Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are closed Monday, their usual days off.
