Parliament votes on the Emergencies Act

Canada's Members of Parliament (MPs) voted 185-151 in favour of keeping the Emergencies Act powers in place on Monday.

Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, invoked the measures on Monday, February 14 in an effort to end the protests in Ottawa and at several of Canada's border crossings.

The MPs debated for days on the measure.

The NDPs said they "reluctantly" stood with Trudeau's Liberals, while the Conservative and Bloc Quebecois parties were firmly against it.

The vote to approve the measures will keep them in place until mid-March at the latest.

Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition has already given notice of a motion to revoke the Act for a second time.
