Coffee pod company to set up shop in Windsor

A British Columbia-based company that designs compostable single-serve coffee pods is bringing production to Windsor.

Nexe Innovations uses plant-based materials to create the pods for use in popular brewing machines such as Keurig, and Nespresso.

The company recently announced it has secured a 54,000 square foot facility in Windsor to manufacture and distribute the pods.

"Acquiring a facility in Windsor enables Nexe to more easily access the talent needed to drive the company's production and product innovation initiatives," said Nexe President Ash Guglani.

The space will reside at the old JD Norman Canada facility at 6845 Hawthorne Drive. Nexe purchased the property for $4.3-million, over $2-million less than the $6.5-million it was originally listed for in April 2021.

"Having this facility in Windsor enables us to acquire the talent that we need for continued innovation, increases production capabilities and shortens our access to Europe and the US Eastern seaboard," Guglani said.

No other details about how many people the company intends to hire have been announced yet, as the business plans to make necessary repairs and improvements to the old parts manufacturing facility before it starts up production.

Once things are up and running in Windsor, the company has expressed an interest in producing other packaging with its materials.
