More Windsor-Essex municipalities to reopen facilities Monday

Three more Windsor-Essex communities will be reopening their municipal facilities on Monday.

The Towns of Amherstburg and Tecumseh, along with the Municipality of Lakeshore, announced on Friday that they will open their facilities that day to varying degrees. Monday is when the provincial government will allow many establishments to resume in-person business, after being ordered to go online earlier this month due to the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

The Town of Amherstburg will take a gradual approach to reopen its facilities starting Monday.

Municipal business at Town Hall or with specific departments can be completed online or by telephone, which the Town continues to encourage people to do. However, if a face-to-face meeting is needed, residents must call and make an appointment.

"The safety of our residents and staff continues to be a priority as we move through this pandemic," said Mayor Aldo DiCarlo. "We are looking forward to once again moving forward in the reopening process, and ask the community to exercise patience with staff as they follow provincial and regional protocols."

The Libro Centre will reopen Monday for scheduled activities and user groups only. For parent-and-tot skating, senior skating, and using the indoor walking track, appointments must be made by visiting the town's recreation website, or calling (519) 736-5712.

Town council and committee meetings will continue to be conducted virtually and are available via livestream.

Lakeshore Town Hall continues to be open for essential business, though visitors will be required to wear a face-covering and complete a COVID-19 screening form online. The municipality is still suggesting that residents consider conducting business by telephone or online.

"Even though we’re on the way back to normal, we’re continuing to ask everyone to do their part which means getting vaccinated, staying home if you’re sick, and abiding by public health measures designed to keep our community safe," said Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain.

All recreational facilities will reopen Monday, including the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, the Libro Community Centre, and the Comber Community Centre. All three will operate at half capacity. Recreation programs, including ice and facility rentals, will also reopen with reduced capacity. Visit the Municipality's website for registration or additional information. Participants must show proof of vaccination when checking in.

Tecumseh

All municipal buildings in Tecumseh will reopen Monday. Town Hall will be open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those wanting to make payments or drop off and pick up documents can do so at the front desk without an appointment. Visitors must complete a screening form and be ready to show a photo ID. Physical distancing, masking, and capacity guidelines still apply.

Residents are also encouraged to conduct business by email, website, or telephone. A dropbox for leaving documents is also available at Town Hall.

Ice rentals resume at Tecumseh Arena. Users 12 and older are required to show proof of vaccination before entering. Allow yourself time before your scheduled activity for the ID check.

All Tecumseh parks and playgrounds are open as usual, with physical distancing encouraged. Community centres and other facilities can be accessed by appointment only.
