A Windsor woman faces five criminal charges and will have to pay five tickets after a traffic stop early Monday morning that can only be described as wild.
Around 12:45 a.m., officers spotted a driver on her phone in a vehicle that didn't have the lights on.
He called a second unit, and the vehicle was stopped in a parking lot near Malden Road and Normandy Street when the driver suddenly threw it in reverse and smashed into the cruiser.
Fortunately, the officers weren't hurt, but the driver wasn't done.
The woman refused to get out of her vehicle, screamed profanities, and kicked at the officers. At headquarters, the behaviour continued as the woman threatened to kill them.
Testing confirmed the woman was intoxicated. Her blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
The officers also found an open bottle of liquor in the centre console of her vehicle that they think was stolen from an LCBO store earlier in the evening.
A 21-year-old woman is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle over 80mgs of alcohol, obstructing a peace officer, uttering threats to cause death, and theft under $5,000.
In addition to the criminal charges, she faces fines for driving on her cellphone, driving without proper headlights, driving with an open bottle of liquor in the car, failing to surrender her insurance card, and failing to give the officers her license.
Her driver's licence is suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle is impounded.
