WECHU reports two new COVID-19 related deaths

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported two new deaths in the region related to COVID-19.

In the last 24 hours, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 80s passed away after testing positive.

There are 70 people in local hospitals who have tested positive for the virus.

Windsor Regional Hospital reports 63 patients with COVID-19 in its care. Of those, 45 are hospitalized primarily because of the illness. There are nine patients in the intensive care unit, of whom three are fully vaccinated, two are partially vaccinated, and four are unvaccinated.

At Erie Shores Healthcare, there are seven people admitted who have tested positive for the virus. Of those, two are admitted for reasons other than COVID-19.

The health unit also reported an increase of 140 cases on Tuesday morning. Due to current testing eligibility, this number does not represent the true number of cases in the community.

There are currently 17 long-term care or retirement homes and two hospital units experiencing an outbreak.

Many outbreaks at workplaces and other community locations may no longer be tracked because of testing eligibility. However, the health unit is currently monitoring outbreaks at 25 community congregate settings and four workplaces.
