Bondy calls for Snively's resignation

Essex Councillor Sherry Bondy is calling for Mayor Larry Snively’s resignation after he pled guilty to Election Act violations.

On Friday, Snively was fined $10,000 for filing 32 proxy forms incorrectly in the last municipal election.

“My next hope is that changes are implemented province-wide and that Mr. Snively finally finds it in his heart to walk away for the betterment of the Town like he should have done 3 long years ago. Elected Officials are supposed to put service before personal gain. So I ask Mr. Snively please serve your community with your resignation. They are asking for it, it is finally time to do the right thing,” said Bondy on her personal website.

According to the Municipal elections act a vacancy on a council must be filled unless the vacancy occurs within 90 days before voting day in the next regular election. If a resignation occurred, the council would have to decide whether to hold a byelection or appoint someone to the position of mayor.

The next regular election will be held in October 2022. Snively has already stated he does not intend to run in the election.

Bondy announced she will be running for the position of mayor.

“On October 24th of this year, vote for the person who tried everything to stop this from happening, not the people who sat back while it happened because they had political gain because of it. The consequences of speaking up have followed me for 3 years. I was snubbed, bullied and ostracized by the Mayor, while others stood by watching,” said Bondy.
