OPP investigate after fake roofer scammed homeowner

The Ontario Provincial Police hope the public can help them track down a suspect wanted after a scam in Lakeshore.

Police say a homeowner on Suncrest Drive, just off County Road 42, called them on Tuesday morning to report fraud.

A man posing as a worker for a local roofing company had gone to the home and taken a $500 deposit to do a job. But when the officers called the company, they said they didn't have anyone on their payroll fitting the man's description.

Now police are looking for a white man who is 5' tall and 160 lbs. He had a thick beard, spoke with a French accent, and drove a black Dodge Ram with a decal on the back.

Police hope someone will recognize the description and give them a call at 1-888-310-1122. Tips can also be left online at www.catchcrooks.com or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
