Sexual enhancement product could cause life-threatening side effects

If you have a blister pack of Herberex in your medicine cabinet, don't use it.

Health Canada has issued a warning for the sexual enhancement product. Testing found an undeclared ingredient in it that can cause serious health risks.

Herberex does not list Nortadalafil as an ingredient.

Nortadalafil is similar to tadalafil. It's a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and should only be used under a health care professional's supervision.

For those taking any kind of nitrate, the interaction between the medications can cause potentially life-threatening low blood pressure. Those with heart problems could suffer a heart attack, stroke, chest pain, high blood pressure, and abnormal heartbeat. Other possible side effects include headache, facial flushing, indigestion, dizziness, abnormal vision, and hearing loss.

Health Canada had authorized the use of Herberex as a herbal product, but the product license has been suspended. It is now illegal to sell in Canada.

So far, the product has been seized from three stores in Canada, including one in Stratford, Sinvention Boutique at 390 Douro Street. The other two stores are in B.C.

Health Canada is working with the Canada Border Services Agency to prevent the importation of Herberex.

The agency recommends anyone who has used it and has concerns should contact their primary healthcare provider.
