Backlog leads to delays notifying COVID-19 positive Ontarians

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is asking those who fear they have COVID-19 to remain patient.

The provincial service that helps health units contact those whose tests have come back positive is experiencing backlogs and delays calling those patients.

The health unit said those who test positive may not receive confirmation from Public Health Ontario until past their contagious period.

The number of new cases, fueled by the more transmissible Omicron variant, is soaring in Ontario. On Monday, Premier Doug Ford said the province could expect 100,000s of new ones daily in the coming days and weeks.

If you have symptoms, have taken a rapid or PCR test and are waiting for the results, or believe you have been exposed to the virus, the health unit asks that you self-isolate immediately and call anyone who had contact with you.
