Driver charged in wrong-way crash on the 401

A LaSalle man has been charged after a wrong-way crash on Hwy. 401 in Tecumseh.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday to the westbound lanes of  the highway near Dougall Parkway. Two pickup trucks had crashed, according to Constable Steven Duguay.

Both drivers were sent to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined that one of the pickup trucks had been driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes. The truck's 81-year-old driver was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.

This is the second wrong-way incident on Highway 401 in Windsor-Essex in a week. Last Wednesday, an 86-year-old woman became disoriented and drove westbound in the eastbound lanes in Windsor.

Police say if you find yourself heading down the wrong way of a highway, pull over to the shoulder immediately, stop, and call 911 for assistance. Never attempt to leave the highway against traffic.
