The temperature in London broke a 37-year-old record on Thursday.
The temperature at the London International Airport reached 14.8 C, breaking the 1984 record of 14.3 C.
"There is a very deep, low-pressure system tracking across Lake Superior towards northeastern Ontario and that's basically ushering a lot of warm air east of it across not only southern Ontario but also northeastern Ontario," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell.
The temperature in Windsor barely missed the record for the date. As of 2 p.m., the temperature at the Windsor airport peaked at 14.9 C, the record made in 1984 is 15 C.
The average high for this date in Windsor Essex is plus 1 while the average temperature for London is around the freezing mark.
Kimbell said the record-breaking temperatures won't stick around too long.
"We will have cold air flooding in behind it this evening [Thursday] so a low of minus 2 tonight so back to normal weather tomorrow but even still a bit above average," said Kimbell. "But we are looking for a bit of snow or freezing rain or ice pellets or some mix of precipitation for Saturday. We'll see the white stuff before too long."
