Valentinis acclaimed as Catholic school board chair

A familiar face will stay on as the chairman of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.

Fulvio Valentinis, who represents Windsor Wards 1 and 10, was acclaimed as chair at Tuesday night's board meeting. He will stay on for at least one more year.

"Despite the ongoing challenges we’ve faced due to the ongoing pandemic, we’ve managed to accomplish a great deal on behalf of our staff, students and their families," said Valentinis in a media release. "Our administration’s focus since schools reopened in September has been on building relationships, and we continue to apply that concept in practical, meaningful ways to re-engage our students in their learning. I look forward to another year of working with my fellow trustees so that we can continue to help our students succeed."

Lisa Soulliere, the trustee from Lakeshore, will remain the board's vice-chair.

"As trustees, we have an obligation to make sure that we are focused on providing outstanding learning experiences for our students," said Soulliere. "The pandemic poses some serious challenges, but our administration has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring that the needs of our students are being met. I look forward to working with our administrative team on ensuring that we stay focused on our priorities."

The chairman's election is the first under the watch of the board's Director of Education, Emelda Byrne, who was named the first female to hold the position this spring.
