Windsor police staff 98 per cent vaccinated

Nearly all of the Windsor Police Service have provided proof of vaccination or have been approved for an accommodation.

This follows an October policy that required all staff to provide proof of vaccination status or to apply for and obtain a medical or human rights accommodation by November 26, 2021.

Approximately two per cent of WPS employees remain unvaccinated and are subject to the policy.

"All members of the Windsor Police Service are valued and respected and I recognize that many of our members have had to make a very difficult decision," Chief Pamela Mizuno said.

Mizuno added that the safety of communities is the top priority of the police.

"I am confident that the level of service we provide our communities will not waver and that there is no concern to public safety."

If unvaccinated members of the force update their immunization status, as outlined in the policy, they will be permitted to return to the workplace.
