Class, bus cohort sent home from Holy Name Elementary

The local English Catholic school board has added another class to its list of those dismissed due to a COVID-19 case.

Under the direction of the local health unit, the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has sent home one class and one bus cohort from Holy Name Catholic Elementary School in Essex.

The board learned of the single confirmed case Friday and have directed the class and bus group not to return to the building on Monday until they are cleared by the health unit.

Affected parents were notified, and the health unit is contacting anyone who may have had contact with the single positive case.

"We have advised parents to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and to keep them at home and call their healthcare provider for further direction if they are ill, or still waiting for results of a COVID-19 test," said board spokesman Stephen Fields.

The Holy Name case marks the seventh total positive test active with the school board, all of them involving students.

Meanwhile, two new positive tests were reported at the Greater Essex County District School Board, one each at Princess Elizabeth Public School in Windsor and Belle River Public School in Lakeshore. The public board does not disclose the number of classes sent home.
