Feed Ontario gets timely donation

Food banks throughout Ontario received a major donation from Hydro One this week as they struggle to fill their shelves.

Hydro One donated $150,000, the equivalent of 450,000 meals to Feed Ontario. Feed Ontario is an organization that partners with food banks in all parts of the province to distribute food to where it is needed most.

"At Hydro One we have this vision of creating a better and brighter future for all and there's not better way that we could do that than through a partnership with the UHC- Hub of Opportunities and Feed Ontario bringing much needed meals to those in need," said Chief Corporate Affairs and Customer Care Officer with Hydro One Jason Fitzsimmons.

June Muir with the UHC- Hub of Opportunities, a partner organization, said donations are desperately needed right now.

"People think that we have recovered but we still are in a crisis. Even if people have gone back to work they still might be in debt, they still might need to catch up, so the need is not going to go away," said Muir.

Muir said they have already gone through most of the supply built through the Miracle Food Drive. She believes with an increase in demand and some donor fatigue they are going through the food more quickly than anticipated.
