Fratman faces weapons charges in Brantford

A member of the St. Clair Fratmen football team faces weapons-related charges in Brantford.

The Fratmen were playing a game against the Hamilton Hurricanes when officers from the Brantford Police Service arrived to investigate a call regarding a gun at the Bison's Alumni / North Park Sports Complex.

They seized a gun and a cartridge magazine, but officers also noticed the serial number had been tampered with on the firearm.

Branden McCraney, 23, of Windsor, faces 12 counts, including careless use, storage, handling, and transport of a firearm, carrying a weapon while attending a public meeting, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, and tampering with a serial number. He is also charged with failure to comply with a judicial release order.

The charges have not been proven in court.

McCraney was held in custody until a bail hearing.

The Fratmen beat the Hurricanes 47-7.
