Active cases and outbreaks declining in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday morning.

There are 216 active infections now and 133 of them involve a variant of concern.

Among the new cases, seven are close-contacts of previously confirmed cases, six were acquired in the community, one case is travel-related, and two cases are still under investigation .

Local hospitals are treating 16 patients who have tested positive for the virus. Windsor Regional Hospital reports eight patients in its care. Among those patients, six are unvaccinated, one is partially vaccinated and one is fully vaccinated.

Health unit staff continue to monitor 17 outbreaks in the community. There are outbreaks at eight workplaces, seven schools, one long-term care facility and one homeless shelter.

To date, 84.9 per cent of eligible residents have been partially vaccinated and 80.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.
