One of the red-letter weekends on the Town of Kingsville's calendar is in full swing this weekend.
The 52nd annual Migration Festival celebrates the legacy of nature conservation, migration, and Jack Miner with a series of events.
"The committee has worked tirelessly to provide a family-friendly festival that everyone can enjoy while staying safe," said Laura Lucier, town councillor and co-chair of the Migration Festival Committee. "We are excited to offer so many events and activities for people to come out and celebrate Kingsville’s heritage and experience the best of our amazing community."
In addition to the festival's tradition of allowing visitors to paint pictures of various landmarks across the town, guided walking and bicycle tours are new to the program this year. Areas covered include Hiram Walker and Mettawas, a historic homes Tour, a Jack Miner Sanctuary tour, and a nature walk at Kennedy Woods. One of the guides will be Deputy Mayor Gord Queen.
"Kingsville was a great place to grow up in. Remembering great times and great places gives the opportunity to cherish the past as we prepare for the future," said Queen. "It was nice to be asked by the festival committee to share some memories with a walk."
The festival marketplace is on from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Saturday's special events include the migration "paint-out", the grand re-opening of the Kingsville Military Museum, children's activities at Lions Park, and Kingsport's Birds of Prey show. On Sunday, special events include the art show and voting on the "paint-out" entries.
