Another COVID-19 related death in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported another COVID-19 related death and an increase of 43 cases on Friday morning.

There have been 20,195 cases of COVID-19 identified in the region since the start of the pandemic. To date, 19,474 have been resolved.

A man in his 70s recently passed away after contracting the virus. There have been 460 deaths in the region connected to COVID-19.

Currently, there are 261 active infections in the community, and 161 of them involve a variant of concern.

Local hospitals are treating ten patients who have tested positive for the virus. According to Windsor Regional Hospital, among the patients who have been hospitalized, two have been vaccinated and eight are unvaccinated.

The health unit is monitoring 25 active outbreaks.

There are outbreaks at eight local schools, including three that were declared in the past 24 hours.  Those are at Colchester North Public School, Leamington District Secondary School, and Westgate Public School.
