Lakeshore man facing child pornography charges

An investigation by Ontario Provincial Police has resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old Lakeshore man.

Members of the OPP's Essex County detachment assisted officers from the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensics Unit with a raid Thursday on a Lakeshore home. Numerous electronic devices were seized, and a suspect was arrested.

The suspect is charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, plus one count of making available child pornography. He has been released following a bail hearing and will have a chance to respond to the charges in a Windsor court on November 1.

"Children are our most valuable and precious members of society," said OPP Detective Sergeant Debra Walker of the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit. "Many victims of child sexual abuse are so young that they cannot tell their story. Every time an image or video depicting that abuse is shared, that child is re-victimized. Members of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit will continue to pursue individuals who exploit children on the Internet."

The OPP is urging parents to speak with the children about internet safety. Some of the tips suggested by the OPP include monitoring your children's internet activity, getting to know their online friends, and being extremely careful around webcams and plug-ins.

Anyone with additional information on this or any other case should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
