More COVID-19 cases identified at local elementary schools

Four classes and two bus cohorts are being dismissed after COVID-19 cases were detected at three Windsor-Essex elementary schools.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board announced on Monday that single cases have been identified at St. Anne French Immersion Catholic Elementary School in Windsor and Stella Maris Catholic Elementary School in Amherstburg. Two additional cases were detected at Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School in LaSalle.  As well, Stella Maris and Sacred Heart have both dismissed a bus cohort at the schools.

The school board said the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will be contacting any students and staff who may have been in contact with the infected individuals to provide instructions to follow. Those affected will be notified by the health unit as to when they can return to school.

“We want to assure parents that we are cooperating with the health unit and doing everything we can to make sure that we continue to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for their children,” the school board said in a news release.

All parents are urged to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19.

There are currently 13 active cases of the virus at schools within the school board. For more information about these active COVID-19 cases, click here.

That board has had 69 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the school year.
