WECHU reports 11 new COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported only 11 new cases of COVID-19 in the region Tuesday morning.

Among the new cases, two are close contacts of previously confirmed infections, two were community-acquired, and one case is outbreak-related. Case and contact management staff continue to investigate six cases.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 19,853 confirmed cases of COVID-19; 238 are currently active. Among the active cases, 136 involve a variant of concern.

Local hospitals are treating 11 people who have tested positive for the virus. Of those, seven are in the ICU. None of the patients currently in the ICU have been fully vaccinated.

The health unit is monitoring 22 active outbreaks in the community. There are outbreaks at 13 workplaces, five schools, two long-term care facilities and two homeless shelters.

To date, 83.6 per cent of eligible residents in Windsor-Essex have gotten one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine while 78 per cent are fully vaccinated.
