One confirmed COVID-19 case at W.J. Langlois School

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is tracking another COVID-19 case at a Windsor elementary school.

The board confirmed Tuesday afternoon that one class of students at W.J. Langlois Catholic Elementary School was dismissed due to a confirmed COVID-19 case.

"We learned of the confirmed case this afternoon and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school Wednesday. The health unit will notify those students when they are able to return to school," said board spokesman Stephen Fields in an email to Blackburn News. "We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected. The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow."

One other confirmed case was reported last week at Langlois. That has since been resolved, and any students tied to that case have been allowed to return to class.

Any students who have not been contacted by the health unit will be able to attend class Wednesday as usual, as the building is open.

The number of cases at the English Catholic board has declined significantly. As of Tuesday afternoon, four confirmed cases were covering three schools, all involving students. A fourth school, St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Windsor, has no active cases but is still classified as an outbreak school by the health unit.

Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board, one new case was reported Tuesday at Roseville Public School in Windsor. There are 34 active cases among students and two among staff. The GECDSB does not report the number of students dismissed as a result of those cases.

There are eight active cases at CSC Providence, the French Catholic board. Five of the cases are at Ste. Ursule Catholic Elementary School in Essex, and one is at L'Essor Secondary School in Tecumseh.
