City of Windsor administration says there is not much they can do about sightseeing helicopters flying over residential neighbourhoods.
At a council meeting in July, Councillor Jo-Anne Gignac asked how the municipality can prohibit these US tourist flights.
Administration clarified the regulation of aeronautics falls directly under the jurisdiction of the federal government and the Minister of Transport.
According to CEO of the Windsor International Airport Mark Galvin, the flights are allowed under the Canadian Aviation Regulations as long as the altitude of the helicopter is 500 feet from any person, vessel, vehicle or structure.
While the municipality cannot legally regulate air traffic, a letter has been sent to the operators to request they alter their flight paths. The tourist provider has not responded.
Councillor Gignac has requested administration write to local members of parliament to express the municipality's concerns over the flights.
