Bike Tour in southern Essex County gets underway Saturday

The Essex Region Conservation Foundation expects hundreds of cyclists to come out for its annual Bike Tour on Saturday.

The ride gets underway in waves of ten riders from Mettawas Park in Kingsville at 8 a.m.

It raises money to support conservation efforts across the county.

"Use of conservation areas and trails has surged over the last year and a half, as people found connections with nature and physical exercise were critical to their wellbeing," said President of the Essex Region Conservation Foundation, Claire Wales. "The Bike Tour is a great way to safely celebrate our important trail network while raising support for local conservation efforts."

The event offers routes for beginners and the most experienced cyclists. Greenway riders can choose from a 15 km, 32 km, or 60 km trail experience, while those road routes range from 60 km to 110 km.

There are rest stops along the four longer routes, and cyclists who complete their trek will get a grab-and-go lunch.

"We want to showcase the beautiful, connected Greenway trail system that has been created with support from so many donors across the region," added Wales. "Road riders will experience some of the excellent County Wide Active Transportation System routes and stops at some of our wonderful conservation areas."
