WECHU reports 39 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

Two more Windsor-Essex residents have passed away after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported a man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s have died. There have now been 450 deaths related to COVID-19 in the community.

The health unit also reported an increase of 39 cases on Tuesday. Among the new infections, 18 are close contacts or confirmed cases, six were acquired in the community, three and outbreak related, and 12 cases are still under investigation.

Active cases are still going down slowly. There are 333 now and half of them involve a variant of concern. The Delta variant remains the most prevalent variant in the community.

Local hospitals are treating 20 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. Windsor Regional Hospital is reporting 17 patients in its care, eight of whom are in the intensive care unit.

The health unit is monitoring 14 workplace outbreaks, five school outbreaks, one community outbreak, and one outbreak in a long-term care facility.
