Four classes, bus cohort, dismissed from Assumption

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has announced the dismissal of more cohorts due to positive COVID-19 cases.

The board announced Tuesday afternoon that the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit ordered four classes of students and a bus cohort from Assumption College Catholic High School to be sent home. The bus cohort also included students from Assumption College Catholic Middle School who were also dismissed.

Two confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported at the high school, according to board spokesman Stephen Fields, bringing the active total to three.

"We learned of the confirmed case [Tuesday] morning and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school Wednesday," said Fields. "The health unit will notify those students when they are able to return to school."

Parents, students, and staff from Assumption have all been notified. Parents should continue screening their kids for COVID-19 symptoms and keep them home if they feel ill.

On Tuesday evening, the WECDSB had 24 active cases in its buildings, with all but two affecting students.

Fields also mentioned that since September 17, a total of 12 confirmed COVID-19 cases were declared resolved by the health unit, and 13 classes were allowed to return to school.

With the exception of St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Windsor, which will reopen on Thursday, all of the board's schools will have classes Wednesday as usual.

Complete information about the board's active COVID-19 cases can be found on its official website.
