ERCA issues flood watch

With a rainfall warning from Environment Canada in effect, the Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for Windsor and Essex County.

Environment Canada is currently forecasting between 80 millimetres and 90 mm of rain over the next two days in the area with about 35-45 mm expected this evening and overnight Tuesday and another 35-45 mm expected Wednesday.

The rain and wind in the forecast has also caused ERCA to issue a shoreline conditions statement. Elevated lake levels and wind around 35 kilometres per hour could affect the Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair shorelines.

People are encouraged to take extra caution to avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events. The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping shoreline structures, and fast moving water can be dangerous.

The flood watch will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday.
