More COVID-19 cases reported at local schools
The number of COVID-19 cases being reported in schools within the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) continues to rise.
Late Monday afternoon, the board confirmed one positive case of the virus at St. Anne Catholic High School in Lakeshore along with Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School and St. John Vianney Catholic Elementary School in Windsor. St Anne’s is now dealing with three active cases while Holy Cross now has two.
St. Anne’s dismissed two classes and one bus cohort, while St. John Vianney only dismissed one class and a bus cohort. Holy Cross also dismissed one class, however, none of the bus lines are affected.
Board spokesman Stephen Fields said the classes have been told not to return to school Tuesday and to attend classes virtually from home. All three schools will remain open.
“We have advised parents to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and to keep them at home and call their healthcare provider for further direction if they are ill, or still waiting for results of a COVID-19 test,” said Fields in a news release sent out to families. “We want to assure parents that we are cooperating with the health unit and doing everything we can to make sure that we continue to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for their children.”
Fields added that families will receive word from the health unit as to when affected students can return to school.
As of Monday evening, the WECDSB has reported 25 active COVID-19 cases at 11 schools in the region.
