Active cases continue slow decline in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 118 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three days.

However, the number of active cases continues to slowly decrease, as there are 366 now. Of those, 224 have been identified as a variant of concern.

Windsor Regional Hospital is reporting 16 patients in its care who have tested positive for the virus. Of the 16 patients admitted, 10 are unvaccinated, two are partially vaccinated and four are fully vaccinated. There are seven patients currently in the intensive care unit, only one of those is fully vaccinated.

Since Friday, 15 school cohorts were dismissed due to an exposure to a positive case of COVID-19. There are currently five school outbreaks in the community.

Only St. Joseph’s Catholic High School is closed entirely due to the outbreak. On Friday, over 300 students were tested at the St. Joe's testing clinic. To date, there have been four cases linked to this school outbreak. Over 800 students were dismissed and advised to get tested.

There are also 15 workplace outbreaks, one long-term care outbreak and one community outbreak in the region.

To date, 81.9 per cent of eligible Windsor-Essex residents have been partially vaccinated and 75.2 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
