U of W to welcome fans back to Alumni Field

Fans of Canadian college football and soccer will be able to watch their team once again at the University of Windsor.

U of W's athletic department announced Friday that fans will return to Alumni Field this season to watch the Lancers football and soccer teams in person. The stadium's capacity will be limited to 750 fully vaccinated people per event, according to the Ontario government's current gathering guidelines.

Tickets will go on sale Monday at noon for both sports and can be purchased online at the official Lancers website. Tickets that are still available can also be purchased at the gate one hour before kickoff on a first-come, first-served basis.

Alumni Field is general admission seating only, and fans are encouraged to sit in "pods" of two to four people from the same household or social bubble, with a two-metre distance between groups.

To comply with U of W's policy on vaccination, all spectators must be fully vaccinated and be ready to provide proof during the screening. No partial vaccinations or exemptions will be allowed. Fans should allow at least 15 minutes upon arrival at the stadium for the COVID-19 screening, and anyone leaving the stadium while the game is in progress will not be allowed to return. Fans are encouraged to download the Safe Lancer app.

Face coverings are required while walking on the concourse, except while in seats or actively eating and drinking. Food and beverage concessions will have pre-packaged menu items and Coca-Cola products available.

Lancer soccer opens the 2021 campaign on Wednesday, September 22, against Guelph. The women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7:15 p.m.

The home football season begins Saturday, October 2, against Guelph, with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
