Windsor City Council wants to hear from residents again about their plans to transform the Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex in the west end.
Councillors signed off on a $42-million agreement with the University of Windsor earlier this summer to close the pool at the West Windsor centre, build a new gym, tennis or pickleball court, a basketball court, and walking track. The university would open its pool at the Lancer Centre to the public.
It launched an online community survey and held consultations at Devonshire Mall, but many residents said they didn't find out about it until it was too late.
Linda MacKenzie, with the group The Friends of Adie Knox, opposes the pool closure. She believes the city would have had different feedback had gone directly to the impacted residents.
"Adie Knox pool has the highest usage in the city," she said in June. "What does that tell you?"
The Lancer Centre, about a kilometre away, is still under construction. It should open next spring.
This time, the city is launching three short surveys on reimagining Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex, the playground, and the splash pad.
There will also be three virtual public information meetings, the first of which is on Friday at 2 p.m. There is also one on Saturday at 10 a.m., and on September 16, at 7 p.m. Archon Architects is holding those zoom sessions.
City council has considered closing the pool at Adie Knox twice in the past, in 2014 and 2019.
