Ontario's Attorney General expects casinos will be able to launch single-event sports betting before the end of the year.
The Criminal Code of Canada has been changed and single-event sports betting becomes legal as of August 27, 2021.
"It's something that Ontarians have been asking for some time. It's a big market, and Ontario is a leader in the country on it. I think is going to be significant," said Attorney General Doug Downey.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has wasted no time, and is ready to launch an online app, PROLINE+, on the day it becomes legal. But to get it inside casinos will take a few more regulations.
"That's still a point of discussion, on what the parameters will be, making sure we have all the regular responsible gaming safeguards and a couple of other issues we're working on both with casinos and other non-land based operators," said Downey.
It's estimated sports betting could create up to 150 jobs at Caesars Windsor.
