Black History murals removed for restoration

The Patterson Park Black History murals have been temporarily removed for restoration work.

The murals were vandalized in late April. The restoration work will also fix some of the information on the panels that include some inaccurate dates and spellings of names.

The artist who was first involved with the murals will carry out the restoration work. Improvements will include an application of an anti-graffiti coating to prevent further damage.

“These murals are very important to our community and have been embraced by many, not just in Sandwich Towne but throughout our region,” said Councillor Costante. “Ensuring their protection for future generations to enjoy and learn from is our top priority as we begin the restoration work.”

The murals should be re-installed by mid-September.
