What's open and closed on the Civic Holiday in Windsor-Essex?

A midsummer break is upon us Monday, and that means many Windsor-Essex businesses will be closed or on shortened hours.

Monday is the Civic Holiday in Ontario, a statutory holiday. All provincial and municipal offices are closed, including ServiceOntario. Certain transactions may be performed online. The same applies to most banks, credit unions, and financial institutions.

Selected LCBO outlets and Beer Store locations will be open. Be sure to check with your favourite location to avoid disappointment.

Both Devonshire Mall in Windsor and Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday. Tecumseh Mall in Windsor will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Most, if not all stores will be open, but due to Step Three guidelines in place, there are mask, capacity, and physical distancing requirements.

All Windsor Public Library and Essex County Library branches will be closed Monday.

The 311 call centre will be closed Monday, and open on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 211 call centre will operate 24 hours as usual.

In the City of Windsor, residential garbage and yard waste collection will not take place on Monday, and be delayed by one day next week. Commercial trash and recycling collection will proceed as usual.

The public drop-off and chemical waste disposal facilities on Central Avenue are closed Monday, but open Tuesday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There is no parking enforcement in the City of Windsor on the Civic Holiday. Street metered parking will be free, though garages and surface lots will be paid as usual. Traffic enforcement payment offices are closed, though payments can still be made online.

Transit Windsor buses are running on the Sunday and holiday schedule. The customer service office at the Chatham Street West terminal will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, while the sales office on North Service Road will be closed.

The day program at the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4) at Windsor Water World will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All indoor recreational facilities, community centres and arenas in the City of Windsor are closed Monday. Registered summer day camps and pre-arranged rental activities will resume Tuesday at Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, Forest Glade Community Centre, and Windsor Water World.

Sandpoint Beach in east Windsor will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, weather and water quality permitting. All the city's splash pads, with the exception of Remington Booster Park, will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Windsor's outdoor pools will be open by reservation only. Visit the city's parks and recreation website to book your time.

Adventure Bay Family Water Park and Cannon Cove remain closed due to COVID-19 protocol. The same applies to the Chimczuk Museum and the Francois Baby House.
