LaSalle is still one of Canada's safest places

The Town of LaSalle is keeping its place on a coveted list.

LaSalle is once again among the top ten safest communities in Canada, according to Statistics Canada's Crime Severity Index for 2020. The town placed third among 325 municipalities examined across the country.

"When I am talking to the residents of our community, they often tell me how safe they feel," said Mayor Marc Bondy. "We thank the members of the LaSalle Police Service for their commitment and dedication to ensuring our safety. The Crime Severity Index confirms that LaSalle Police Service is providing effective programs and services within our community."

LaSalle's Acting Police Chief Duncan Davies said the community engagement commitment the service has with its residents is a big part of keeping crime rates down.

"We are pleased that the Town of LaSalle consistently ranks as having one of the lowest rates of crime in the country especially as we navigate this global pandemic and its effect on our operations, staff and community at large," said Davies. "As always, the LaSalle Police Service remains committed to ensuring and maintaining the public’s trust, confidence and support through effective community partnerships, policing strategies, transparency and accountability."

The Canadian Centre for Justice and Community Safety Statistics (CCJS) said that the Crime Severity Index not only measures the current rate of crime in a certain place but also identifies trends in crime year-to-year. It examines both violent and non-violent crimes.
