Additional garbage pick-up scheduled for Tecumseh after flooding

Following Friday's heavy rainfall, the Town of Tecumseh is offering additional waste pick-up for residents who experienced flooding.

The town said some areas experienced up to 90 millimetres of rain over a 27-hour period on Friday. As well, around 71 millimetres fell over a six-hour period between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., which resulted in surface ponding in several low-lying areas, roadways and private properties.

“We have heard from a number of residents requesting assistance from the town with the disposal of flood debris,” said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara in a news release. “We reached out to Green For Life and scheduled the additional service that will help alleviate some of the impact on residents during this time.”

The town has arranged for temporary changes to the normal waste collection to allow for a special flood debris pick-up on Monday, July 19. As well, the town will accept bags of waste in addition to the hard-sided containers during the regularly scheduled collection date of Thursday, July 22.

The town said it has received over 150 calls and emails from residents regarding the rain event. In an effort to gather further information from those property owners who may have experienced basement flooding, the town is asking residents to complete an online survey by clicking here.
