Over 50 per cent of adults in Windsor Essex fully vaccinated

The Windsor-Essex region hit another milestone today with over 50 per cent of adults in the region fully vaccinated.

A total of 451,898 vaccine doses have been administered in Windsor-Essex. To date, 74.6 per cent of adults have received one dose, and 50.3 per cent of adults have received both doses.

That's compared to 78.3 per cent of adults in Ontario who have been partially vaccinated, and 46.3 per cent who have been fully vaccinated.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit recorded 23 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three days.

There were 11 new cases on July 3, five on July 4 and seven on July 5.  Among the 23 new cases, nine are community-acquired, three are close contacts of confirmed cases, one case is travel-related, one case is outbreak-related, and nine cases are still under investigation.

There are currently 45 active cases in Windsor and Essex County. Of those, nine have been identified as involving variants of concern.

Local hospitals are treating 12 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The health unit is monitoring one workplace outbreak and one community outbreak.
