Adjustments coming to Windsor-Essex vaccination centres

With the vast majority of Windsor-Essex residents having gotten at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, there will be a couple of changes coming to the region's mass vaccination centres.

Windsor Regional Hospital announced that with a new vaccination centre about to open at the former Devonshire Mall Sears store, it has offered the Windsor Hall location back to the University of Windsor, effective Friday.

"We are grateful to our tremendous partners at the University of Windsor for their generosity and charity in allowing us to use the Windsor Hall facility for thousands of vaccinations over the past 13 weeks," said hospital president and CEO David Musyj. "Amid all of the challenges and heartbreaking moments through this COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that historians will look back at this period of time and remember how local public partners worked together in such a collaborative way for the good of our community."

Windsor Hall, the home of U of W's School of Social Work, and the site of the former Windsor Star building began taking vaccination appointments on March 22. Since then, about 31,000 doses were put in arms.

The vaccination clinic at Devonshire Mall will be operational on Monday.

Also, the Libro Centre in Amherstburg, one of the county's vaccination clinics, will shut down in mid-August to prepare the building for hockey in the fall, and as case rates continue to drop.

The vaccination clinics will continue in Windsor at the WFCU Centre, St. Clair College SportsPlex, Moy Medical Centre until further notice, along with the Nature Fresh Farms Centre in Leamington. To book an appointment, visit the health unit website.
