Lauzon Parkway voted one of Windsor's worst roads in the annual CAA campaign is getting a facelift this year.
The $8.1 million reconstruction project is expected to continue until the end of 2022.
Work is currently underway to rebuild the north and southbound lanes of Lauzon Parkway between Tecumseh Road East and Hawthorne Drive. The work includes reconstructing the concrete on seven lanes of traffic, improving drainage, rebuilding the multi-use trail on the east side of Lauzon Parkway and replacing some of the concrete sidewalks.
This work was originally planned for 2024 but was accelerated with funding through the city's asset management plan.
“Lauzon Parkway is one of the busiest roads in Ward 8. It provides a key link to the E.C. Row Expressway from Tecumseh Road, Wyandotte Street and Riverside Drive. I am proud of council’s commitment to fast-tracking this project to rebuild Lauzon Parkway to make it safer and more reliable for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians,” said Ward 8 Councillor Gary Kaschak.
This year, Lauzon Parkway was voted one of the worst roads in the city as part of the CAA’s Worst Roads campaign.
“Roads are the arteries used every day to keep essential workers, goods and services flowing and should be maintained more than ever. CAA is pleased to see these new commitments to improve local roads and infrastructure,” said CAA Manager of Government Relations Raymond Chan.
Phase 2 of construction, expected to get underway in early 2022, will rebuild the north and southbound lanes of Lauzon Parkway from E.C. Row Expressway to Cantelon Drive.
