WECHU reports seven new infections

There were seven new infections of COVID-19 confirmed in the Windsor-Essex area on Thursday morning.

However, due to a data clean-up, the overall case count for the Windsor Essex County Health Unit only increased by two. There have been 16,753 cases of COVID-19 confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic. To date, 16,248 people recovered from the virus and 433 people have passed away.

Among the new infections confirmed, four cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, one case acquired in the community, one case is related to travel outside of North America, and one case is still under investigation.

There are 72 known active cases in the community and 22 of them involve a variant of concern. There are eight patients being treated in local hospitals.

Over 362,316 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the region. To date, 266,864 residents have received one dose and 95,452 of those have been fully vaccinated.
