Windsor woman charged after low-speed police chase

A Windsor woman is facing a number of charges after allegedly stealing a large truck and leading police on a low-speed chase while intoxicated.

LaSalle police say around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, the Windsor Police Service notified them that a large white panel truck was reported stolen from a worksite and was headed toward LaSalle on Ojibway Parkway.

An officer saw the truck and signalled the driver to stop. The truck driver did not stop and continued weaving on the roadway and onto the shoulder at around 40 km/hr. Additional officers joined the chase and tried to box in the truck on Edgemore Avenue. The truck stopped briefly then accelerated, hitting the rear end of a LaSalle police cruiser. The officer inside the cruiser was not injured.

LaSalle police said the truck eventually came to a stop at the dead end on Edgemore and the driver ran away but was arrested after a short chase.

The 37-year-old has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight From Police, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, and Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The charges have not been proven in court.
