OPP to 'ticket' young people doing good deeds

Ontario Provincial Police will be on the lookout this summer for young people doing good in the community.

The Essex County OPP is teaming up again with Macs-Circle K Convenience Stores for this year's Operation Freeze, an initiative to encourage positive behaviour from youths, as well as performing "random acts of kindness".

Officers will be actively looking for young people engaging in positive things during the summer months. If an officer sees one, they will give the youth a "citation" in the form of a coupon good for a Mac's-Circle K Froster beverage.

The OPP will seek out youths who are demonstrating leadership, doing good deeds for others, participating in community activities or charitable events, and helping others in need.

Officers may also use the tickets as a conversation starter with young people on subjects requiring police intervention.

All the OPP's five Essex County detachments, Essex, Kingsville, Lakeshore, Leamington, and Tecumseh, will participate.
