What's that noise? Detroit Grand Prix underway across the river

You may have heard it already, the rumble of engines and the whine as they race around the track on Belle Isle. The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is underway.

While Canadians can't attend this year because of restrictions at land border crossings, those living in Windsor will likely hear it all weekend long.

The full schedule is posted online.

Friday morning, the IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar Championship and the Indy Light Series held practice runs around the track on Belle Isle. Qualifying for this weekend's big events is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

There are three races on Saturday. The Indy Light Series race begins at 12:10 p.m., at 2 p.m., it's the NTT INDYCAR series race, and the IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar Championship race starts at 5 p.m.

The big event is on Sunday at noon with the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit - Dual II begins. The race should last about three hours.

Organizers of last year's Grand Prix Detroit cancelled the event because of the pandemic.
