WECHU reports seven new COVID-19 cases

Only seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit on Thursday.

Among the new cases, two are close contacts of confirmed cases, three are community-acquired, and two cases are still being investigated.

There are 132 active cases in the community now and 65 of them involve a variant of concern.

The health unit also reported a man in his 60s passed away after contracting COVID-19. There have been 433 deaths connected to the virus since March 2020.

Local hospitals are treating 16 patients with COVID-19.

To date, 263,011 residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, 59,691 of those are now fully vaccinated.

All residents aged 12 and older can book an appointment for their first vaccine through wevax.ca. Residents 70 and older and those who received the first dose of Pfizer of Moderna on or before April 18 can now book an appointment for their second vaccine.

Residents who received an AstraZeneca vaccine over 12 weeks ago can also book an appointment for their second dose.
