Wineology plans to open Windsor's first rooftop patio

The owner of Wineology is hoping Windsor's first rooftop patio will help him recover from losses experienced during the pandemic.

The rooftop patio on the Walkerville location of the restaurant has already been constructed. The owner is currently working out final licensing and safety requirements with the City of Windsor.

Owner Jean-Claude Boulos is hopeful the patio will be ready to open when the ban on outdoor dining is lifted in mid-June.

"This summer I don't think indoor is going to be available for us so the outdoor will be the only option and utilizing the rooftop will be doubling the capacity in my space," said Boulos.

There are currently four Wineology locations in Windsor and Essex County.

Boulos estimates his revenue has gone down 98 per cent due to the pandemic.

"We need to recover from that, so allowing us to put a rooftop will really help us out and I hope they will support other restaurants too," said Boulos.

There are no current restrictions on rooftop patios, however, officials with the City of Windsor say most buildings were not designed to have occupancy like that.

Boulos said when the building was repaired after a fire at the restaurant in 2020, they engineered the space for a rooftop patio.
